GAS TURBINES Energy is undoubtedly a key cornerstone in economies globally. It lies at the heart of both developing and developed countries’ production of goods and services across all economic sectors. Be it agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation, or public administration, societies rely on sustainable and reliable energy supply. To this end, Siemens continues to develop innovative products and solutions for these countries to meet and sustain their energy demands. In the power generation field in particular, Siemens has developed a reliable and tested product family of SGT-2000E gas turbines deployed in many plants in the world, amongst them in Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa. Si3D TM = Siemens innovative 3 Dimensional One of the most innovative solutions for making SGTx-2000E gas turbines more competitive and more cost-effective is the Si3D upgrade product. Si3D stands for “Siemens innovative 3D” optimised turbine blades and vanes, developed for all four stages of the turbine section. The profile of the Si3D blades and vanes is aerodynamically optimised, significantly improving power output and fuel efficiency. This blading generation also features enhanced materials and coating, an improved cooling air path, and optimised cooling air demand. The Si3D upgrade has been introduced into the market step by step. While the earlier turbine blading upgrades comprised only retrofitting stages 1 and 2 with Si3D, the full Si3D package for stages 1 to 4 has been available since 2008. With a full Si3D turbine upgrade of all four turbine stages, gas turbine efficiency will be increased in combination up to 1.4% points, or more than 4%, and power output can be increased by up to 12MW or even more, depending on GT controller settings. Additional benefits The upgrade solution offers full flexibility: • More power at a slightly increased fuel consumption ensuring ‘green’ MW per GT plus CO 2 reduction and significantly less fuel at constant power output • Si3D upgrade investment provides fast payback in most SGT5-2000E service applications as a result of reduced fuel consumption and/or alternatively increased MW output. • The Si3D turbine upgrade reduces life cycle costs and is compatible with all other upgrade products. Si3D blading • is state of the art for new SGTx- 2000E gas turbines. Furthermore, the upgrade installation has no impact on the duration of a major outage, thus affecting a MW increase as part of a standard outage scope without loss of production (as a result of lengthy outage period). Overall Si3D service experience: performance validated on over 80 GTs and over 1 million EOH and over 12.000 starts on 50Hz & 60Hz systems. Siemens is in a position to offer customers support with respect to individual payback periods, Net Present Value calculations, operational flexibility, production efficiency measurements, emission management and controls, fuel usage at the various output ranges and fuel saving scenario calculations. Performance benefits Retrofitting Si3D turbine blades enables the achievement of the following power output and efficiency improvements: Turbine stages 1 and 2: • Gas turbine power output increased by up to 5MW* or more • Gas turbine efficiency improved by up to 0.7% points* or more Turbine stages 3 and 4: • Gas turbine power output increased by up to 7MW* or more • Gas turbine efficiency improved by up to 0.7% points* or more * Actual results may vary depending on local site conditions, ambient conditions and temperature settings. 20 2000E frame roadmap and R&D focus derived from market requirements.
